Friday, May 2, 2025 • 4 Iyar 5785
10:00 AM - 2:00 PMSecond Baptist Church, 441 Monroe St, Detroit, MI 48226Adults members of our congregation are invited to join Temple Israel’s Anti-Racism Task Force for a powerful journey exploring Detroit’s role in the fight for freedom from slavery.
We'll begin with a guided tour of Second Baptist Church, a historic refuge for enslaved people seeking safety in Canada. After the tour, we’ll enjoy lunch at a Black-owned restaurant before visiting the Gateway to Freedom statue, a lasting symbol of resilience and hope.
Rooted in Jewish values of justice, freedom, and tikkun olam (repairing the world), this experience honors both our respective ancestors' struggles and Jewish Detroiters’ contributions to the Underground Railroad. Don’t miss this meaningful opportunity to connect with history and community!
$10 for Temple Members| $15 for Non-Members.
