MONDAY NIGHTS (7-8)
Our 7th and 8th grade program takes place on Monday nights. Teens enjoy wonderful programming run by our clergy and educators. Topics include Holocaust studies, Israel, Jewish identity, hunger in the Detroit community, self-esteem, leadership skills, and more. Our 8th grade curriculum is seminar-driven, and teens love hearing from our guest speakers and attending 'out of the box' field trips.
ROOTS (9-12)
ROOTS is Temple Israel's experiential learning program for teens in 9th-12th grade that encourages community-building and leadership skills. True to its name, ROOTS also emphasizes the development of Jewish identity and a deep connection to Jewish life. It’s a super supportive, caring and welcoming space, where you’ll be empowered by your peers to learn and lead. Plus, we have dedicated clergy and faculty who serve as positive, accessible, cool, Jewish role models.
Teens build their own program by choosing one elective per semester - they explore topics that interest them with like-minded people. 10th graders also participate in the Confirmation Experience, and our 12th graders prepare for college with our Graduation program. All of our teens learn and connect in ways that are personally meaningful and Jewishly significant, and get to know their peers and clergy in both formal and informal settings.
