This was a fantastic display of woven and needlework pieces brimming with color, texture, and above all, a deeply cherished Jewish tradition.
Highlighted are the pieces created by Israeli-born Orna Willis, a former Temple Israel teacher and Temple member Marilyn Gans Schelberg. Also included is a breathtaking chuppah by long-time Temple member Judy Miller with help from Ruthe Goldstein and Linda Koby and a tallit bag by temple member Jo Gilbert. More can be learned about the artists in the brochure that accompanies the exhibit.
Complementing spirited women in another way is the new photographic series called “Jewish Mothers: Strength, Wisdom, Compassion.” It explores the subject of the contemporary American Jewish mother, reflecting the undeniable essence of Jewish women throughout the life cycle. The photos have captured the great diversity that exists yet somehow reveals the singular aspect of being a Jewish mother and/or daughter.
