RIsa Aqua

Risa Aqua

Temple Israel’s Goodman Family Judaic and Archival Museum is proud to feature an exhibit by Risa Towbin Aqua, a Denver artist, who combines her love of the Hebrew language with her passion for art and design.  Her works in this exhibit comprise of illuminations or interpretations of short Bible, Talmud, or liturgical text.
Having learned Hebrew calligraphy from her father, the artist Ed Towbin, Aqua finds beauty and personality in the shapes of the letters, the space between the Hebrew words in the Torah and the white spaces that sparkle through a watercolor painting.
Aqua works mainly in watercolor, ink on paper and most recently digital photo-collage.  For Aqua, “making art based on Hebrew texts was not a decision as much as a natural direction.”

To see more of Risa’s work, please visit her website at RisaAqua.com.
